MAKATI GIRL FOR A MONTH!!

I saw Jericho Rosales inside Power Plant Mall and that’s the main highlight of my stay in Makati!! #FanGirl

I am currently staying in one of the big hotels here in Makati City for a month-long job training and I can't believe I just saw one of my idols in the flesh! I was in Power Plant Mall Rockwell the other day to buy a pair of shoes for our training, when a familiar figure casually walked past me and I looked up to find it was Echo. Yes, it's so real. My heart seemed to have skipped a beat. I was shookt! It was a slow-mo moment for me, I froze and I was speechless. I watched him reach the main entrance door without a word. I didn't have the guts to ask him for a photo, Jericho Rosales making my day was more than enough.

Here's a compilation of some of the photos I took with my phone during my stay in Makati City:

when the going gets tough, one goes to jolli jeep for lunch

where people meet for the love of art

blood, sweat and tears for sale

you can buy a nice bed but not a good sleep

where jaywalking is almost legal

HALLOWEEN MAKEUP IDEAS

The last quarter of the year is always my favorite because I get to celebrate my birthdays in October, dress up on Halloween in November, and enjoy the festivities in December.

I've been really into making different makeup looks these past few months and today I decided to share with you guys the three halloween makeup looks that I did.

This was supposed to be inspired by a Mobile Legends character name Estes. I used whatever is available in my makeup kit and immediately  wished I have prepared enough for this, like maybe, I should've bought some face paint or something. But yeah, I still enjoyed doing this very easy and very simple makeup look. I used a brown masking tape for my ear to make it look like elf ears. You can watch some tutorials on Youtube.

Estes-inspired
Halloween is not supposed to be all dark and scary, so I chose to dress up and honor one of the most talented female artist in the history - Frida Kahlo. Since I didn't have a floral head dress, I just edited one on a phone app called Photo Grid. Watch my Frida Kahlo makeup tutorial on Youtube by clicking on the link here.

"I tried to drown my sorrows, but the bastards learned how to swim, and now I am overwhelmed by this decent and good feeling." - FK

For this look, I used BYS Philippines Cosmic Eyeshadow Palette and it worked like magic! I may need to iron some details the next time I try to recreate this, but overall, I loved the finish product. This is my favorite halloween look so far and this is inspired by Archie Comics and Riverdale. Watch my makeup video tutorial here.

Straight outta comic book.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and I hope to see you guys again soon. If you liked this post, don't forget to comment below and share this to your friends.

Summer 2017

What's up guys? It is my favorite time of the year again! And to make this summer blog post different from the others, I am going to answer random questions asked by my friends and followers on Instagram and Twitter. While some of you might say summer is over, welp, I live in Asia where it is sunny almost all year round. So "weather" you like it or not, here we go!

Your favorite summer travel destination/s?
Bali, Indonesia! Because I had the best summer there back in 2013. Read my travel diary here. In my country, I would say the best ones I've been to is in Bolinao, Pangasinan and San Juan, La Union. I have never seen such clear waters like the one we have in Bolinao beach, and that really makes me proud to be from the province of Pangasinan. For my San Juan, La Union surfing experience read here.

The mountains or the beaches?
Beaches! Because I can't imagine myself, ever, hiking. I know there are a lot of health benefits in hiking and trekking, but also in sun-bathing and swimming. Isn't it? So yeah, I choose the beach.

One-piece swimsuit or Bikini?
One-piece swimsuit, unless I stay and swim in a private pool villa like the ones we see in all those Maldives advertisements - then I would wear a bikini. But I am just not confident enough in a bikini and unfit for it, so one-piece swimsuit would do. There are actually a lot of designs you can choose from, my favorites are from Boom Sasoon swimsuit collection. Not so boring at all!

Give 3 summer must-haves.
Banana Boat Sport sunscreen lotion, the spray is less effective. Sunnies shades. Proper swimwear. Additional: A book to read, I suggest China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan. Fresh coconut juice or any drinks for you to re-hydrate. A selfie stick or a partner, for solo travelers. Haha!

Feature: Swiss Club Hotel
What is your summer anthem?
It's a bit outdated but I still like this song. "If I lose Myself - (Alesso remix) One Republic" in reference to my Summer 2015 experience, read more here. It is still my favorite summer jam. Okay, now I feel a bit nostalgic.

What is the best summer color/s?
Blue!

Blog or vlog?
Well if I were at the beach, it'd be a lot easier to just record clips for a vlog than bring my laptop there and write. But I like both and I've been posting vlogs on my Youtube channel once in a while. But, who knows, I might be a full time vlogger in the future!

Jack Of All Trades

Yes it's true, we all have hidden talents! And sometimes, some circumstances in life make us reveal them to the world -one at a time or all at once. Join me in this journey as I enter the ever competitive world of beauty and makeup with these chosen primary weapons. *blows imaginary gun*

Real Techniques Base Brushes. This is my first set of brushes ever! Real Techniques is owned by Sam and Nic Chapman -they are sisters, professional makeup artists, and the duo behind a top Youtube channel. The function of this set is for complete coverage of base makeup. The core collection of the coverage essentials include:

From top to bottom | Photo by  © www.lvlygrey.com
(1) Buffing brush - UltraPlush bristles ideal for full coverage application of powder and mineral foundation.
(2) Detailer brush - precision cut to effortlessly conceal problem areas; or, use with lipstick for long lasting shape and definition.
(3) Pointed foundation brush - unique cut for use with liquid foundation to build custom coverage.
(4) Contour brush - delicately applies highlighter to the cheekbones for sheer, soft-focus contour.

I am so loving #RealTechniques brushes at the moment, and I can't wait to get my hands on the two other sets for the eyes and for finish. Real Techniques brushes have a reasonable price that is perfect for budding makeup artists like me.

NYX soft matte lip cream minis | Instagram @lvlygrey
NYX soft matte lip cream minis. These lippies may be little and cute but they are also sure to give you a nice soft matte finish when applied to your lips. The shades from the photo above include (1) Moscow; (2) Copenhagen; (3) Vancouver; (4) Nyx liquid suede - Foul Mouth; (5)Nyx liquid suede - Oh, Put It OnAll dark shades, suits me! Shelf lifeNyx liquid suede - six monthsNyx soft matte lip cream - eighteen months.

Another thing I like about NYX lippies is the fact that it doesn't make your lips feel like a desert, because of its cream base. You might just have to re-apply after every meal or after every heavy smooch!

L.A. Colors - 5 Color Matte Eyeshadow | Freebie from @classy.colours
L.A. Colors Matte Eyeshadow. I got this as a freebie from one of my trusted online shops, go check them out on Facebook and Instagram. I would have to rate L.A. Colors Matte Eyeshadow's pigment a 2.5/5. Because of the need to apply more product to see it's true color or shade. Hence this, I use this palette for a natural-looking "no-makeup" makeup look. Sabi nga nila, "A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor." So once or twice or even thrice in a makeup artist's career, he will use products that will challenge his skills and strategy. Wow! I'm imagining a reality show similar to Master Chef but with a twist, and I will call it Master Makeup Artist or Makeup Diva! Hahaha!

Time for swatch-ing! Love these shades so much!
I got excited swatch-ing these lippies! Here are some of my looks using NYX lippies: Vancouver, Copenhagen and Oh, Put It On. You can visit my Instagram for more photos. Follow me at @lvlygrey! My dream is to try to swatch more lippies in the future and collect limited edition items. I am currently in love with MAC matte lipsticks and Kylie liquid lipsticks. I also like combining shades for a more fierce or a more toned-down look. Maybe soon I'll try lip liners for achieving the perfect lip shapes!

Start of a growing collection | Photo by www.lvlygrey.com
My mission is to help those who can't afford expensive hair and makeup services. Nothing in life is free of course, I have to earn a living. But I also want to be the fairy godmother (with budget-friendly hair and makeup services) like the one from Cinderella. It is prom season here in the Philippines and I want to make some young girl's dream to attend the ball all dolled up, full of confidence, positive vibes and encouragement. I also don't mean to compete with any of my favorite makeup artists here, they are all super talented! Like my friends and idols, #CJCuisonGlamTeam - Ms CJ, Mommy Ryan and Ms Carlos! I've been their client too and they are the best here. Let us make this world a beautiful place by loving and supporting each other. I have yet to learn a lot and I'm not even sure if I'd pursue makeup artistry as my main bread and butter, I'm a jack of all trades and my attention span is short. So who knows? I'm just happy to add this to the list of skills that I can confidently say I can do.
So thank you for reading this post and remember,
JUST DREAM BIG!

Surfing Tips for Beginners.. with Feelings

My trip to San Juan, La Union will not be complete without actually learning how to surf.. and if there's anywhere else I'd still choose here. Why? Because #LoveLocal duh?! So let me begin with a statement that I'm sure some people would definitely agree to:

Ang surfing ay parang pag-ibig.

Here are surfing tips for beginners like me, but with feelings para damang-dama mo!

Take time to learn beginner's lessons. Don't rush things that needed to grow. Char! Hindi lahat ng bagay minamadali. Hahaha! Joke's on me bruh. Hi Mom! Haha. On a serious note, learn to practice on the ground first. Your instructor will demonstrate how to paddle and get up and etc. Listen carefully to what your instructor is saying, especially the Do's and Don'ts. Huwag assume ng assume. Try to remember everything that he says, learn only from the experts.

Don't be afraid of looking super awkward.

Summon all your courage. Hmm. So you're in the water, what now? Don't just back out, you paid for this shit. If you're not a good swimmer, ask your instructor to not go farther down. Never surf anywhere you aren't comfortable swimming on your own. Be honest and you will earn people's trust. Kung alam mong summer fling lang kayo, huwag kang paasa pa more. Kala mo ang lalim, mababaw lang pala. How deep is your love Koya? Charot!

Tightening my shorts here, since I'm not wearing a wet suit, therefore, risking myself to be seen naked.

Put your body and mind into it. Relax. Focus. By now, your instructor is checking your leash and giving you additional advice, warnings, and words of encouragement. This is your time to go over what you're about do next. Dahil lahat ng bagay ay pinag-iisipan. Hindi pwedeng sugod ng sugod. Tularan si Ate. Haha!

All smiles when Kuya Piolo shouted words of encouragement with feelings.
"Ang love parang surfing yan, sa umpisa talaga sesemplang ka!"
-Lemon Surfstar, Flotsam Movie

Enough said! Be prepared to wipe out. Hmm. I found it very difficult to stand because I'm heavy and, unconsciously, kept holding on to the board. I always end up riding the wave on my knees. Minsan kasi kailangan talaga mag-let go. Kailangan maging matibay para matuto tayong bumangon na mag-isa. Stop holding on to something/someone who keeps you from growing. Girl, hindi ka forever young!

Oooh I think I found myself two cheerleaders. HAHA!

Be patient. Waiting for the right wave to come is not easy. Given the time I went to surf (at around 2PM), I felt like a grilled bangus. I was thirsty and exhausted. But I didn't stop until I get what I came here for. Madami man ang dumaan na sa buhay mo, mayron at mayron paring tamang tao para sa iyo. Chillax ka lang, darating ang tamang alon.

Love ain't always picture perfect

Don't give up. Once I got it, a wave of relief came across Kuya Piolo's face.. and I was the happiest living creature in San Juan waters. Haha! Don't give up on love. Kahit na ilang beses ka ng sumemplang, nasaktan, at kahit pagod na pagod kana. Don't give up on love, just because someone has taken you for granted, just because someone decided he doesn't want to love you anymore. Walang forever.. hindi ka forever #TeamSawi.

Ngiting tagumpay

At the end of the day, we will always learn a thing or two from our experiences in life. Whether be it in surfing or other sports, in love and life. Minsan magiging bitter ka, pero dapat minsan lang yun.

Baguio City Day 1: Inn Rocio & La Parilla

I can't remember the last time I went to Baguio City, the summer capital of the Philippines. I've always been afraid to take the bus to Baguio. So if you ask me to join you and you don't have a private car and I know you're not a good driver, I wouldn't take the risk. Haha! But this time it's different, because I'm actually on a trip with a legit travel blogger. Everyone meet one of my closest friends, one of the women I look up to, my Ate Mica of Senyorita.net. All we needed was a legit reason to be in Baguio (Hi Mom! Hi Sam!), the rest of our stay is history. Haha!

Senyorita and Miss Grey
Pumo-photography haha
So on our first day in Baguio, we stayed at Inn Rocio. It is located at Kisad Road and a walking distance to Spade Bar, we realized this on our way to the next hotel na we stayed at. Haha, sayang! So after our agenda that day, we went to sleep muna and then had dinner at Inn Rocio's restaurant - La Parilla.

In fairness, the outdoor seats are romantic to look at, it's like one of those places where you'd want to propose to your girlfriend. But we were confused on our way there, we didn't know which step/path to take and almost crashed a couple's supposed intimate dinner. Haha! We opted to dine inside the restaurant since we were from a more humid city and it's just been declared that Baguio hit it's lowest temperature in years. It's 10 degrees celsius lang naman when we were there. I had two sweaters on plus scarf, layering at its best, because the only cold thing I can handle is an ice-cold beer. Haha!

"Make it look like a candid shot"
We ordered two of La Parilla's bestsellers: Lomi Bagnet (Php90) and Binagoongan Bagnet (Php145)

We were so full and after a few, we decided to just go back to our room to get our laptops and stay in the lobby for the rest of the night. That didn't go as planned though because - brownout! YES!! It was my worst nightmare, okay nag-iinarte, but still -the horror of no WIFI connection! I was so into the mood for writing pa naman, chos! Truth is, I was such a scared-y cat. The moment it went dark, I let out a shriek and kept on saying "Oh my God, Oh my God Ate, Ate Mica!" Hahaha. I know, annoying!

We looked outside and half of Baguio was in total darkness. We waited for a few minutes but the electricity was still down. I took it upon myself to update my social media status and let people know it's odd na walang ilaw sa Baguio, since I have cellular data pa naman. I planned to take a photo of the lobby so I opened grabbed my phone. I went nuts when I saw a face! Took me a moment to realize it was my front camera that I opened instead.. and I was looking at my hideous face. Hahaha! Ate Mica and I had a good laugh after.

Inn Rocio Lobby & Breakfast Area
After two excruciating hours of waiting, the electricity was back on. We were sleepy anyway, so we just spent a few minutes online while Rihanna's newly released album was playing on Ate Mica's laptop, and slept soundly.

Inn Rocio Front Desk
Inn Rocio's still cheaper than hotels but I do not wish to experience the same thing. Although I really appreciate Kuya guard-on-duty for bringing me four candles to light up our room while brownout, I strongly suggest the management to put emergency lights in each room.

My stay there was still by far the most exciting during our Baguio trip. It may not be so, for ghost-hunters-wanna-be or those who's purpose of going to Baguio was to seek pleasure in uncovering paranormal activities. But hey, kanya-kanyang trip to! Haha!
Part two will be posted soonest.

"NABLOS" Art Exhibit

Biskeg Pangasinan is back with yet another successful art exhibit in celebration of the Philippine Independence Day entitled "NABLOS" which is a local term for the act of breaking free. The opening reception was held last Saturday June 20, 2015 at Liongoren Art Gallery, Tapuac District Dagupan City where I also met Patrick B. Fernandez, a self-taught artist who was inspired by exhibitions in Dagupan City's Pista'y Dayat Festival. He graduated from the Pangasinan State University with honors and has held various positions in corporations and local government before deciding to become a full-time artist and art instructor. Fernandez was a finalist in the 2009 GSIS National Painting Competition and a Semi-Finalist in the LRT Art Competition 2009 before being voted as the president of the Dagupan Artists' Circle and the AAP Dagupan City, Pangasinan Chapter. He is also one of the four founding members of APATIRA. I asked Patrick to give a message and a piece of advice to all aspiring artists and here's what he has to say,

"For young aspiring artists... its not easy to push a career in the arts.. passion is not enough to get you through.. you need dedication and hardwork to perfect your craft and master your creativity.. To be true artist is not just to learn the skill to draw or paint but to have the Discipline to create wether there is an urge or not. Artist live in the bliss of creation and should not stop creating arts even if inspiration comes or not."

There will be new art exhibits every month and it'll be open to public, follow Biskeg PangasinanArtcetera and my page LVLY GREY on Facebook for updates.
